One of the essential skills for developing basketball players is to dunk the ball. It takes a considerable amount of talent to do so, and many players are unable to achieve height on their vertical regardless of what they try and do.
There are many things one can attempt, and that is why it is best to focus on the following tips as you look to figure out what works and what does not.
Here are the tips that matter most when it comes to learning how to slam dunk.
1) Emphasize Calf Workouts
You want to emphasize calf workouts as much as you can because they matter a lot. If not, you are not going to enjoy how things are done at all.
Look to do things such as calf raises, jump squats, and more to build up leg strength.
2) Use Smaller Ball
Think about using a smaller ball because too many people fret about losing control of the ball while in the air. Practice with something that is easier first.
3) Jump off of One Leg Only
How are you jumping? Some decide to jump off of two, feet but this eats into your vertical. Jump off of one foot to reduce drag.
4) Jump From The Toes
This is one of those things players forget when it comes to leaping as they’re so focused on stability. You want to land on your sole but don’t leap off it. You want to jump from the front third of your foot while launching.
This is going to provide additional control as you leap.
These are the tips on how to slam dunk while you are learning the craft. It takes time but you will get it and that’s when you will enjoy the process.
