5 Exercises That Will Instantly Make You Jump Higher
We all would like that magic pill that would allow us to add 10+ inches to our vertical virtually overnight. Unfortunately, there is no such thing. Just like anything else in life you have to put in the work and then reap the rewards.
If you don't have a high vertical then you won't be able to physically compete with other explosive players. Your scoring, defense, rebounds will all be limited due to other players being more athletic. However, even if you already can naturally jump you still have more vertical leap power that is untapped.
I am going to go over 5 exercises that can help you jump higher and will help to separate yourself from the rest but only if you're willing to put in the work.
This is the probably the most overlooked aspect of increasing your vertical because if you stretch properly you can literally add up to 5 inches in under 30 minutes. Stretching is going to allow you to have a wider range of motion in your legs and arms.
Achilles Stretch - Keep your leg straight while stretching. Make sure you hold the stretch on each foot for at least 30 seconds.
Pigeon Stretch - This stretch feels so good and will completely open up your hips. Breath in and out slowly and with each exhale you want to go further down into the stretch.
#2- Platform Jumps
Stand straight and bring your hand up and quickly explode up onto the box/platform. The key here is you want to be as explosive as possible so we want to focus on less but more intense reps.
#3- Vertical Jumps
This is the standard vertical jump just as if you were being tested. Try to reach up as high as you can and make sure you swing your hands up to help gain more height.
#4- Depth Jumps
Step down with both hitting the ground at exactly the same time and as soon as you touch the ground explode back up driving your knees to your chest.
#5- Single Leg Tuck Jumps
Standing on one foot explode up into your jump trying to bring your knee to your chest.
