2005 Pro-Start Culinary Student of the Year
State of Washington
March 2005
Mount Si High School is proud to announce that senior student Jerry Weathers was named the Washington State Restaurant Association Culinary Pro-Start Student of the Year for 2005. This distinguished honor was bestowed upon Jerry at the 2005 Hospitality invitation, known as the Boyd Culinary Cup because of the sponsorship by Boyd’s Coffee.
As a result of being named Student of the Year, Jerry will be awarded a scholarship to help him with his post secondary aspirations and assist him in expanding his expected career in the Restaurant-Hospitality industry. He was selected from among some 75 other nominated students across the state. Jerry states, “I could use the money to help me attend college. I never thought I would have the opportunity to become college educated. I can now realize my dream.” Jerry has not decided as of yet where he will attend college.
In an effort to expose high school students to the vast amount of opportunities in the restaurant and hospitality industry, WRA Education Foundation launched Pro-Start, a restaurant school-to-career program in Washington State 4 years ago. Pro-start provides education, training and mentoring to students and teachers alike. The WRA has approximately 75 Pro-Start culinary and hospitality programs in Washington State high schools and Skills Centers.
